CULLMAN — Good morning, readers, this is what's happening in your county today:


Drivers may expect to see City Street patching crews on County Roads 701 and 706, also, 4th Ave. SE at 2nd St.


Today will be partly sunny, with a high near 71. A very pleasant day, weather-wise. Good for enjoying more Oktoberfest activities!

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 38. Good night to make Glühmost (spiced cider) - recipe below.

Retired teachers: The Cullman Education Retirees Association (CERA) will meet at 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Conference Center, 916 Convent Road Cullman 35055. Speaker will be Janice Charlesworth, executive director/AERA. Healthwise Screening will be from 9 a.m. to noon. Eligible insurance is PEEHIP BC/BS, Southland Supplemental or Viva HMO.

Sacred Heart will also provide a German dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $10/adults; $5/children. 256-734-3730.

Rumor’s Deli and Coffeehouse will serve German meals from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Cost varies with menu items. Located at 105 1st Ave. NE, next to Festhalle Market Platz.

Al’s Dog House, 204 1st Ave. NE will begin their German menu at 5:30 p.m.

The Elks Lodge will served German meals from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Festhalle Market Platz.


German hot mulled cider

8 cups apple cider

1/8 tsp. cinnamon

1 pinch ground cloves

1 pinch cardamom

Honey (taste)

1 slice fresh lemon (garnish)

Heat and serve with crackers and cheese. This drink is delicious and is a great alternative to coffee in the cool evening hours.
