Gas leak evacuates businesses

A gas leak in a north Cullman business area this afternoon was caused when a motorist backed over a regulator valve.

Cullman County Emergency Management Agency director Phyllis Little said the gas was quickly shut off. The Classy Lady and other businesses in the plaza on U.S. Highway 31 North were evacuated while emergency officials were on the scene.

No injuries were reported at the scene and the leak was stopped. The report of the gas leak was made before 5 p.m. Traffic in the area has also returned to normal.
