Snow expected tonight, Saturday

While the New England states prepare for snow that may accumulate up to six inches, north Alabama can expect a light dusting to a half-inch accumulation today and Saturday.

The National Weather Service is reporting that the greatest potential for snow is tonight and during the daylight hours Saturday. Most of the threat should diminish by Saturday evening.

The exact timing and amount of accumulation is uncertain, but updates are expected to be available throughout the day. The weather service is reporting that a slightly greater accumulation is possible in higher elevations along the Cumberland Plateau.

The high temperature today is expected to reach 41 and drop to 29 overnight. Saturday’s high is also expected to be 41, but will dip to 26 during the evening.

Weather officials are not expecting significant road hazards from the snow, but updates should be monitored for changing conditions and the possibility of freezing on bridges and overpasses. The weather service has placed the potential for snow at 40 percent tonight and Saturday.
