CULLMAN — Good morning, readers, this is what's happening in your county today:


The Cullman City Street Department will be working at the Agriplex Center. Patch crews will be working on Dahlke Drive NE and 4th Ave. SE.


Today: A 30 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 53. Southwest wind 15 to 20 mph.

Tonight: Cloudy, with a low around 36. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

Best bets for today and beyond:

VFW Tuesday night dance: A country dance will be held at 7 p.m. today at the VFW, 112 Veterans Ave., Cullman 35055. Concessions available — no alcohol or smoking allowed. Admission is $5, public welcome. Stoney Lonesome Band will be entertainment. Info: Jeanette Caples at 256-287-0221. Drawing for door prizes. Musical evening at Daystar: A benefit concert will be held for heart patient Jimmy Brown to help with medical expenses at 7 p.m. March 8, at Daystar Church, 200 Daystar Drive, Cullman 35057. Straitway Quartet and the Ms. Senior Alabama winners will be performing. Love offering will be taken. Anyone may attend.

Pick up your entry form for the Queen of Hearts pageant: Harmony School, 4910 County Road 940, Logan 35098, will hold the Queen of Hearts pageant at 2 p.m. March 9, in the school gym. Open to the public, from birth to 18 years. Forms available at Harmony School, Avenue Bridals and McGukin Civic Center. All proceeds benefits school’s needs. Info: School office at 256-747-1427.

Dinner, bake sale and a raffle! The Child Development Center’s annual fundraiser will consist of dinner from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, along with a bake sale and raffle. The dinner is loaded jumbo potato with your choice of barbecue or chili, and a drink. Dine in or carry out. Raffle tickets are a $1 each and many items will be raffled throughout the evening. Also, a sale will be ongoing for those who’d like to take home some baked goodies. The event will be held at the center, 17600 U.S. Highway 31, Cullman 35055; and all proceeds will benefit the center.
