Two men have been airlifted to Huntsville Hospital with gunshot wounds following an altercation near Fairview this evening.
A third person, who Sheriff Mike Rainey said was the shooter, is being taken to Cullman Regional Medical Center for treatment of physical injuries. According to Rainey, the alleged shooter’s injuries were not caused by gunshot wounds. His identity, along with the identities of those shot, have not been released by investigators.
Shots were fired in the side yard of a residence on County Road 1547. Rainey said investigators have located witnesses to interview.
“We were able to interview the person we believe fired the gunshots and he is going for treatment to CRMC for other types of injuries,” Rainey said. “We still have a lot of answers to get. We know that a pistol was used in the shooting. It appears that one person was shot twice and the other man one time, but that’s not totally certain either.”
Ambulances and sheriff’s patrol cruisers were seen speeding along U.S. 278 East between 6:30 and 7 p.m. Helicopters were called to the scene to take the gunshot victims to Huntsville Hospital. Members of the Fairview volunteer fire department assisted as first responders.
“At some point we will be releasing the names, but we’re still in the early phases of the investigation,” said Rainey, who was at the scene with investigators and deputies. “We know that there was a physical altercation involving the three men earlier today, but the exact time of that we’re not even certain of at this time.”
