A suspect who allegedly robbed a Cullman man at gunpoint in the parking lot of Cullman Heritage Park two weeks ago has been arrested by Cullman City police.
Dustin Raymond Lopez, 21, was arrested by authorities on Monday afternoon citing eye-witness testimony and an ongoing investigation. He is being charged with robbery in the first degree, as well as drug-related charges issued by the Cullman Narcotics Enforcement Team (CNET).
Cullman City Assistant Police Chief Craig Green said when they were serving the search warrant, the suspect was unaware he was being sought after and was pulled over in a traffic stop as officials were waiting for him near his place of employment.
“Officers had been looking for him and called patrol to come help,” Green said. “Matt Dean, the lead investigator saw Lopez in the passenger seat of a car, and they made the traffic stop without incident.”
Green said they learned CNET had an ongoing investigation involving Lopez with two alleged cases against him, so officers decided to combine the warrants and arrest him on the drug-related charges as well.
At Cullman Heritage Park, the suspect reportedly approach a man sitting in his vehicle and demanded money at approximately April 23 around 11:30 a.m. The man initially refused to give up his money, and at that time the suspect pulled a handgun, Green told The Times. The suspect reportedly left the scene in a silver Mercedes.
Lopez was arrested on 24th Street at 7th Avenue in the Industrial Park area. The driver of the car was released and confirmed to not be involved in the investigations against Lopez.
CNET was also involved in the arrest, as Lopez will be charged with
two counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.
Lopez is being held at the Cullman County Detention Center on a $85,000 bond. Robbery in the first degree is a Class A felony.
