Dates set, 1st band booked for Rock the South 2013 (WITH VIDEOS)

CULLMAN — After months of work behind the scenes, organizers have revealed the date for the second edition of Cullman’s largest music festival Rock the South.

The event is set for June 21-22 at Heritage Park, and will be hosted by hit country artist Sara Evans. Organizers confirmed Monday that the first band signed to join Evans in 2013 will be Mississippi-based The Band Perry. The trio is best known for their recent hit “If I Die Young,” which has been certified as Quadruple Platinum.

Rock the South has grown to two days for 2013, following the extremely successful one-day event last year with headliners Dierks Bentley and Kellie Pickler.

Officials hope to announce the full line-up soon. The 2013 edition of the festival will be larger in scope than last year, featuring events with former college football stars and a “BBQ row” of regional barbecue vendors.
