City and county law enforcement didn’t have much to report this New Year’s holiday, as spokespersons from each agency said it was a relatively quiet.
The numbers can speak for themselves.
The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office had no arrests for driving under the influence (DUI) or public intoxication during the holiday period which began Dec. 28 and ended Tuesday.
“It was quiet, and that’s a good thing,” Cullman County Sheriff Mike Rainey said. “It seemed like people were heeding the warning.”
Meanwhile, Cullman Police made two DUI arrests, and one public intoxication arrest.
“We were glad it was quiet,” Cullman Assistant Police Chief Craig Green said. “We prepare for it to be busy and always hope for the best. After looking at the big picture, the latter is how it turned out.”
Green credited businesses and citizens for understanding the local laws, and added it seemed as though they made every effort to follow them.
“I think it all goes back to the responsible vendors doing what their supposed to do,” Green said. “And the citizens too for taking the advice of getting a designated driver rather than risking the life of others.”
A spokesperson with the Alabama State Troopers Post in Decatur reported only one wreck with injuries during the holiday period. That accident occurred Monday night, three miles north of Crane Hill.
