Cullman Police are searching for a suspect in a late-morning armed robbery at Heritage Park.
The robbery occurred around 11:30 a.m. in the parking lot near Olive Street, Assistant Police Chief Craig Green said.
The suspect reportedly approached a man sitting in his vehicle and demanded money. Green said the man initially refused to give up his money, but at that time the suspect pulled a handgun.
“The victim gave the suspect an undetermined amount of money. The suspect was wearing a gray, hooded jacket and sunglasses. My understanding, from witnesses, is that he pointed the gun at the victim,” Green said.
Police are searching for a white male who left the scene in a silver Mercedes. Witnesses told police that the license plate appeared to be local.
Green said the Mercedes had been parked at Heritage since at least 11 a.m. After the robbery, the vehicle was seen departing on Olive Street.
“We had three witnesses at the scene,” Green said. “The victim was sitting in the parking lot waiting for his son to finish running at the park when he was approached.”
The suspect apparently acted alone. Witnesses reported to police that he was alone in the Mercedes when he left.
“We know that the suspect had his hood pulled up over his head when he approached the victim, but if our information is good we are looking at a limited number of vehicles locally that fit the description,” Green said.
