Fairview coaching legend Joe Shults died Wednesday night at age 88 at his home.
The longtime basketball coach had been recognized on many occasions including being the namesake for the Joe Shults Award presented to one of the county’s elite players annually at the Cullman County Basketball Tournament. Pictured, Shults presents the award to Vinemont player Jared Hembree after the 2003 Eagles championship win.
“I don’t know about the rest of them (past Vinemont winners), but winning the Joe Shults award is very important to me,” said Hembree after receiving the award.
