Tornado watch in effect as storms near Cullman area

CULLMAN — A tornado watch is in effect for Cullman County and most of north Alabama until 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service is monitoring a strong line of thunderstorms extending from Bankhead National Forest to Addison to 13 miles east of Double Springs, and moving northeast at 35 miles per hour.

Heavy rain and wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour are possible with the storms, according to the weather service.

Rain is expected to move through the area from the afternoon into the evening hours, possible causing flash flooding and pooling on some roads.
