Downtown Cullman Christmas parade set for Nov. 14
CULLMAN — The Downtown Merchants Association will host a Christmas parade in downtown Cullman on Nov. 14 beginning at 10 a.m.
“We have been thinking about this for about a year,” said Frank Fagg, a member of the Downtown Merchants Association. “Another reason we decided to do it this year was because we did not get to have the fair parade.”
The organizers are hoping for a good turnout from the community, especially because the Cullman County Fair parade was canceled this year because of rain.
It has been at least 20 years since the City of Cullman has hosted a Christmas parade and downtown store owner Judy Nelms is excited.
“It will get people downtown and I am excited about it,” she said.
“Pretty much anyone who wants to be involved in it can be,” Fagg said. “We just ask for a Christmas theme.”
The parade will be in conjunction with the annual Christmas in Cullman event, which includes many area merchants opening stores on Saturday and Sunday for early holiday shopping.
The parade route will begin at Busy Bee Cafe and go north up 1st Ave. to the Festhalle Market Platz, then turning east onto Arnold St. N.E., then turning onto 2nd Ave. N.E. going South in front of Sacred Heart Church on 2nd Ave. and ending on 5th St. S.E.
The registration deadline is Wednesday. There is no charge for entrants, and applications can be picked up at the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce or by e-mailing tracy@foarchitects.com.
The committee is also planning to have a Strawberry Days parade in the spring.
‰ Tiffany Green can be reached by e-mail at tgreen@cullmantimes.com or by telephone at 734-2131, ext. 220.
