Couple arrested for chemical endangerment of children
By Patrick McCrelessCullman County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two Berlin residents Saturday for allegedly keeping meth and syringes near two children.
According to sheriff’s reports, Carlos Jerome Tankersley, 35, and his common-law wife, Jamie Dean Swann, 27, were arrested at their residence on County Road 728 and charged with chemical endangerment of a child, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to appear for domestic violence in the third degree.
The children, who belong to Tankersley and are 5 and 4-years-old, were turned over to other family members, said Cullman County Sheriff Tyler Roden.
Roden said the case began when deputies arrived at Tankersley’s residence to serve warrants on him and Swann for failure to appear for domestic violence.
While in the home, Roden said deputies recovered a black pouch that contained syringes and a small bag of meth.
“The children were nearby ... in very close proximity,” Roden said. “The deputies felt it warranted a charge of endangerment because they felt the children were in danger.”
Swann and Tankersley were incarcerated at the Cullman County Detention Center, each with a $11,000 bond.
Chemical endangerment of a child and unlawful possession of a controlled substance are Class C felonies, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
