The central registration area at Cullman Regional Medical Center will soon be getting a facelift.
Construction, which is slated to begin at the end of the month, is part of the CRMC’s Foundation’s Refresh-A-Room project. The project got a big boost recently when the Cullman Lion’s Club donated $25,000 in honor of fellow Cullman Lion’s Club member Chester Freeman, who passed away last month.
“The hospital is very important,” Lions Club president Steve Cartee said. “It’s the only place in business that saves lives all day. I can’t measure how important it is to our community. We do what we can to help because it effects everyone in a positive way.”
Cartee added the decision to commemorate Freeman with the contribution was a no brainer. Freeman served on the Foundation’s Board of Directors until his term expired in January.
“He was a lion in the community,” Cartee said. “He brought a lot of things to Cullman, and without him, I don’t think a lot of it would have happened.”
Maria Stanford, executive director of the CRMC Foundation, agreed.
“It’s wonderful that the Lion’s Club members are recognizing fellow member Chester Freeman and making the donation in his memory,” she said. “Mr. Freeman was an advocate of advancing health care in our community.”
According to Stanford, as part of the facelift, central registration, which includes the main waiting area, central registration work room, individual patient workstations, and the main hallway area, will be getting new flooring, new furniture, a new coat of paint, and the revamping of work surface areas.
CRMC Foundation board member and Refresh-A-Room capital campaign chairperson Danny McAfee expressed his appreciation to the Lion’s Club for their contribution to the project.
“The Cullman Lion’s Club has stepped up to be the first service organization to contribute to the Refresh-A-Room campaign which will make our hospital much more comfortable and pleasant both for the patients and their caregivers,” McAfee said. “Their contribution will allow us to renovate an area of the medical center that handles around 80,000 people a year.”
CRMC president and CEO Jim Weidner echoed those thoughts.
“I am amazed at the level of support that the Lion’s Club has given to the medical center with the recent Refresh-A-Room donation,” he said. “This generous gift will now allow for the project to be expanded to a main patient registration and access area known as central registration.”
Stanford added, “The Foundation is honored the Lion’s Club would make such a generous donation to impact Cullman county residents.”
