Schweighart seeking mayor's seat in South Vinemont

CULLMAN — Dr. Robert J. Schweighart II has seen a lot of positive changes take place in the town of South Vinemont in his 26 years of residency.

With his recent announcement to run for mayor, he's hoping, if elected, to continue the progress of the town.

"I've given it much thought, and feel I have some new ideas that will continue the progress and improve the lives of the citizens in the community," he said. “Improving South Vinemont to a point where the population is growing and services are meeting all the needs of its citizens for work and play is they key role of its government, and it’s my plan to see that we meet those goals.”

Schweighart believes a strong vision for business development would improve the quality of life for South Vinemont residents, but added maintaining the strong family values of the close knit community as his number one priority. He added that keeping the town’s strong schools is imperative to give a reason for families to want to live there.

"My vision of a vibrant family-friendly community where people would have a destination to attend, such as the new ballfields is important, but I also feel other businesses are needed to complete the experience. With our new park, we need something to bring in revenue.”

If elected, Schweighart said he hopes there would be a point in time when South Vinemont and North Vinemont could once again unify.

“I hope one day it will be one Vinemont so that the North Vinemont citizens will be able to have a voice again in community decisions.”

Schweighart has been involved in community service for over 28 years, including serving in the role of South Vinemont town councilman for the past six. He is a retired employee of the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office and Ford. He and his wife Katie have five children, and attend Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cullman.
