A Cullman County teenager died Tuesday night after he accidentally shot himself with a handgun.

Blake Johnson, 19, of Trimble was handling a semi-automatic handgun at his home with a friend when the weapon accidentally went off, striking him in the head. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

“He and a friend were handling a gun when it accidentally fired, and it was an accidental shooting,” Cullman County Coroner Gary Murphree said. “He was holding the gun himself.”
