The political landscape across Cullman County could look very different Tuesday night, with dozens of mayoral and council seats up for grabs in area municipal elections.
Cullman Mayor Max Townson has three challengers, while seven of Cullman County’s smaller municipalities also have contested races for mayor. Every town except one has at least one contested seat, between mayoral and council races.
The only referendum on any ballot will be in Good Hope, where citizens will decide whether or not to approve legal sales of alcohol. If the measure passes, the town would become the third in Cullman County to approve legal sales — following Cullman and Hanceville.
The election is set for August 28, with polls open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Municipal races are handled differently than county and state races, with each separate town hosting its own self-contained election.
Voters will need some form of identification, and must report to their correct voting precinct. If any registered voter does not know their voting location, they can contact the board of registrars at 256-775-4699 for more information.
Cullman clerk Wes Moore said election prep has run smoothly this year, and he hopes local towns will see a solid turnout next week.
“Everything has gone very well, and we really want to thank the election officials we have coming out to work the polls,” he said.
