To say Nancy Clemmons Moore has had a busy week would be an understatement.
With the recently garnished title of Burgermeister, the Cullman resident has spent hours upon end at the Festhalle Market Platz and at other various events throughout town as part of the annual Oktoberfest this week. But if it was up to her, she wouldn't have it any other way.
"I love this," Moore said. "I love being able to give back to the community. I'm having one of the best week's of my life. I'm truly honored and blessed, and I thank Cullman Oktoberfest and the committee for letting me be involved."
Moore spent Thursday morning mingling and dancing with senior citizens as part of Senior Day at the festival, while enjoying entertainment by Terry Cavanaugh and the Alpine Express. Seniors were also able to enjoy a free hot dog lunch and several rounds of bingo.
Jack Glenn has been a frequenter at events so far this week, including those Thursday, and said he plans to attend several more before it all conclude Saturday.
"I come out every year," Glenn said. "It's always good to be out, to see your friends, and being able to dance a little bit."
Events pick back up tonight at 5 p.m. with Christ Lutheran Church's German Fest Cookout. Free Brats and dogs are available until they are gone. Traditional German music will also be playing throughout the night at the Festhalle until 9:30 p.m.
The Oktoberfest 5K and 10K run, as well as the Oktoberfest Mud Run kick off the final day of events Saturday. Other events throughout the day at Depot Park include the Oktoberfest Bed Race at 8 a.m, Hundfest, which is highlighted by the Wiener Dog race at 10 a.m. and the pet parade at noon. A Bratwurst eating contest will be held at 12:30 p.m. The Oktoberfest BBQ Challenge will be ongoing throughout the day beginning at 8 a.m. at Sportsman Lake Park.
Events conclude with the Burgermeister Ball from 7-11 p.m. at the McGukin Civic Center. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for those ages 15 and under.
