GOOD HOPE —
A local is hoping to build a new subdivision on 3.6 acres within the city.
The developer’s blueprints show plans for 10 townhouses on Trimble Road near the Good Hope primary school. The units would be rented or sold by Jeronimo Slyvia.
Mayor Corey Harbison said he is familiar with Sylvia’s work because the developer had built other houses locally. The city council has also reviewed the plans for the development.
“The homes he built in Hanceville are nice and as long as he follows the guidelines and meets all the requirements during inspections, then we’re all for it,” Harbison said. “If he doesn’t, we will put a stop work order on him until he meets the requirements.”
Harbison said construction will begin in the coming weeks and Sylvia’s attendance at a recent council meeting was only a courtesy.
“We didn’t vote on Sylvia being allowed to move forward with building the homes, he came before the council to make sure there weren’t any questions or concerns,” Harbison said. “This is great for Good Hope. The more residential houses we bring in, the more sales tax comes in. This will increase our residential population and betters our demographics for the recruiting of retail shops. Once he builds these houses we also get more property tax. So this is a good thing.”
Sylvia said he chose Good Hope for this development because of its location near the interstate and because of the city’s growth potential.
“This is a really good area for building houses, it’s a convenient place for people and for traveling,” Sylvia said. “We will be selling some of the houses and renting others. We will starting building the first week of November. We’re planning on doing other subdivisions after this one.”

Shared condolences for the passing of council member Jerry Bartlett’s father.
Discussed adding a quarter of a cent sale tax on the sale of manufactured homes. The tax would add $20,000 a year into Good Hope’s general fund.
The next Good Hope city council meeting will be Monday, November 11, at 6:30 p.m.
