Cullman police officers interrupted a burglary after responding to a call for suspicious activity in the Cullman Shopping Center on Monday night around 11:30.
Heath Shane Pack, 28 and David Olvin Brown, 26, both of Cullman were arrested early Tuesday morning for Third Degree burglary. Officers Matt Hollingsworth and Bailey Mahler were told two people were filling up shopping carts with items and pushing them down the street from the shopping center. Hollingsworth said when they arrived there was a cart full of tools left in the parking lot and they decided to wait on the suspects to return.
“We waited about 40 minutes and then saw two men walking up toward the buggy,” Hollingsworth said. “We went to them and they admitted to stealing the tools and taking them home. They were mirandized and gave us written consent to search the home and shed where they had put the other stolen tools, which we found.”
An estimated $1000-$1200 of stolen power tools, kerosene heaters, hand-trucks, and a chainsaw was recovered from the home. The tools were taken from a maintenance room at the North Shopping Center.
“They cooperated with us and didn’t try to lie about the situation,” Hollingsworth said. “They realized they had been caught so they gave us their statements and we arrested them for burglary.”
Pack and Brown are being held at the Cullman County Detention Center and their bond amounts were not available.
