CULLMAN — Good morning, readers, this is what's happening in your county today:


Patch crews will be working on 7th St. SE, Golf Course Road and St. Joseph Dr.; and Decatur Ave. NW is closed from Northwood Dr. to Woodvale for tree removal.


Today: Sunny, with a high near 88. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 63. Calm wind.

Best bets for today and beyond:

Rummage sale: New Freedom Baptist Church will hold a rummage sale at 504 2nd Ave. NW, Cullman 35055 (old Exxon Service Station) at 8 a.m. Sept. 6-7. Donations accepted. All proceeds to go to church’s building fund.

Cullman to host wingfest event: Cullman City Parks and Recreation will host the first ever Cluck-n-Brew wingfest event, 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Depot Park, sponsored by Cullman Savings Bank. The event will feature a wing cookoff between local businesses, organizations and individuals, and will also have live music, food, drinks, beer, a game day zone tent with live SEC football games, and a kidzone. The kidzone will have games, inflatables and a video-game truck, as well as vendors.

Admission is $5 at the gate and tickets will be sold for wings, food and beer.

The wing cookoff will end with the title “best wings in town” and a $500 prize. Wings will be sold for 50 cents each and proceeds will benefit local businesses as well as the Community Playground Project.

Luau/silent auction fundraiser: Garden City Church of God’s Women of Faith will host a luau and silent auction from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8. Church is located at 132 Short St. SW, Garden City 35070. Cost is $5/adults; $3 for ages 12 and younger.

Admission fee includes 3 silent auction tickets; additional tickets are 25 cents each. Large selection of auction items. All proceeds to go to church’s food bank.
