County commissioners at beach conference

Cullman County’s commissioners and the county engineers and administrator are in Orange Beach this week for the annual Alabama Association of County Commissions conference.

 The conference began Monday with a golf tournament and fishing expedition followed by classes on various issues like sales tax, ethics, workers’ compensation and liability insurance Tuesday. Today, classes will touch on topics like security, preparing county buildings for active shooter situations, recent gun control changes, immigration enforcement and local laws. Thursday will cover such issues like 911 funding changes, health care insurance and Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program, or ATRIP.

Commission Chairman Kenneth Walker, Associate Commissioners Darrell Hicks and Stanley Yarbrough, County Engineer Jon Brunner, Assistant County Engineer John Lang and County Administrator Gary Teichmiller are participating in the conference held at Perdido Beach Resort and are expected to back in Cullman by Monday.

The cost of the trip was not available Wednesday due to officials’ absence.
