— A 27-year-old Cullman man was arrested Tuesday on three drug-related charges at a Fairview car wash.

Joseph Wayne Christiansen was arrested by a Cullman County Sheriff’s deputy while parked in the car wash parking lot on Alabama Highway 69 during a routine patro, which led to an unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance charge, possession of marijuana, first-degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia .

“Deputy Jed Thomas observed a green Dodge Durango sitting in the Fairview car wash parking lot,” Sheriff Mike Rainey said. “When he approached the vehicle he observed a white male slumped over the steering wheel.”

Rainey said that Thomas attempted to wake the subject, but he couldn’t get the window down so he opened the driver’s doora nd recognized the subject as Christiansen.

Rainey said Thomas then asked for consent to search the vehicle, and Christiansen agreed.

“When Christiansen exited the vehicle, there was a small black bottle and a small baggy containing a white substance that fell out of the vehicle,” Rainey said. “At the time, the white substance was believed to be methamphetamines. He was placed under arrest and read his Miranda rights.”

With a further search of the vehicle, they located components that were consistent with meth manufacturing. Also a green, leafy substance, believed to be marijuana, was found in the vehicle, Rainey said. The substance in the bag tested positive for methamphetamines.

“I want to commend Sergeant Ronnie Melton and Deputy Jed Thomas for proactive law enforcement,” Rainey said.

Christiansen is being held at the Cullman County Detention Center on a $1.6 million bond.
