CULLMAN —
With hopes to start construction on the Duck River Dam in mid-to-late 2011, the Cullman Utilities Board interviewed three candidates for the position of project manager this week.
After the Tuesday afternoon interviews, Cullman Mayor Max Townson said filling the post is a top priority.
The board met with engineer Dwight Moss; Hoar Program Management representative Mike Lanier; and Eric Thomas, who has worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The three candidates were whittled down from an initial list of five prospects.
“We interviewed the final three, and they’re the ones we thought would be most capable of managing this job,” Townson said. “Setting this up is about keeping this project on track, so it will end up costing less for the rate payers.”
To discuss the hire further, the council has scheduled a special meeting for noon on Tuesday, Jan. 4 at the power board office. The exact pay scale for the position will likely be negotiated once a selection is made.
The approximately $70 million Duck River reservoir project includes the construction of a 640-acre lake and a six-mile pipeline with a 32-million-gallon-per-day capacity. The reservoir and dam will be located east of lake Catoma and north of U.S. Highway 278.
