The Cullman Times
The Cullman County Commission approved Tuesday new camping rates for Smith Lake Park going into effect in 2014.
Parks and Recreation Director Doug Davenport said he reviewed camping rates at other surrounding parks like Point Mallard in Decatur, Guntersville State Park and Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park in Birmingham. In most cases, the county will begin collecting lodging taxes when the taxes had been included before, Davenport said. The rate adjustment is anticipated to generate $44,720 in additional revenue.
RV rates will increase from $22 with taxes included to $22 plus 10 percent county lodging tax. Tent rates will increase from $14.30 taxes included to $14 plus lodging tax. Weekly rates will increase from $82.50 taxes included to $82.50 plus lodging tax. Monthly storage will increase from $120 for eight nights of camping to $170 plus tax. Rates for full-time campers (for unlimited camping) will increase from $380 to $425 plus taxes.
