— The Cullman police department has raised $7,000 in donations for their Shop With a Cop program, but is still seeking financial support from the public.

The Shop With A Cop program connects children in need with local law enforcement officers, providing the children with money to shop for Christmas presents. The program is funded entirely by donations. Underprivileged children who participate in the program are chosen by school officials. Police Chief Kenny Culpepper said this would be the first event of it’s kind.

“Children and officers meet the morning of Shop With a Cop where they travel together in a law enforcement vehicle to shop at Walmart,” Culpepper said. “Not only the children get a chance to purchase Christmas presents that they would otherwise not be able to buy, but they also get a chance to build a positive relationship with law enforcement.”

The officers said their goal was to spend $200-250 per child and they hope to sponsor between 10-20 children.

If you have questions regarding the program or would like to make a donation, contact Matt Schlosser or Adam Clark at the Cullman police department at 256-734-1434.
