Four Cullman men indicted in three separate felony cases

Four Cullman men were indicted this week in relation to three separate Cullman County investigations involving rape and murder cases.

Among those indicted were: Charles Christopher Burks, 25, for murder; Terry Lynn Mikel, 45, for capital murder and murder; Jerald Lee Hyde, 36, for incest, rape first-degree, and sexual abuse of a child under 12; Michael Keith Wells, 28, for second-degree rape.

Chief Deputy Max Bartlett, of the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, commended the effort of all those involved with seeing the cases through.

Mikel and Burks are father and son and were charged with the murder of their wife and mother, respectively, after she was found dead in her vehicle on Sunday, July 28, 2013, from multiple gun shot wounds.

Angela Annette Mikel, 41, was discovered on County Road 38 around after a missing persons report had been filed by her aunt. Her husband Terry Lynn Mikel, 45, and son, Charles Christopher Burks, 25, were charged Monday, July 19, 2013, in her murder.

Angela Mikel had filed an order of protection against her estranged husband  a week before her murder for domestic abuse and had been staying with her aunt.

Mikel was indicted for capital murder and murder and is being held at the Cullman County Detention Center without bond. Burks was indicted for murder and is being held at the Cullman County Detention Center on a $75,000 bond.


After being convicted in 1999 for assaulting a Cullman police officer, Jerald Lee Hyde was arrested multiple times in 2008 for possessing a firearm, eluding, and other charges. In 2011, he was arrested for incest, first-degree rape and sexual abuse of a child under 12. He is being held at the Cullman County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.


Michael Keith Wells, 28, posted his $25,000 property bond on Wednesday. Wells was indicted on a second-degree rape charge involving a female between the ages of 12-16. The arrest was from a 2011 case.
