The new Kennedy Galvanizing plant in Hanceville, which will offer as many as 30 local jobs, is expected to be completed by the end of April.
Ricky Riggs, the building site superintendent, said he is pleased with the progress that has been made thus far, as the plant broke ground in November.
“There is some crane work that will have to be done, but it should be finished by the end of April, or early in May,” Riggs said.
Galvanizing is a process to coat iron or steel with a rust-resistant zinc. Examples of items that could be galvanized are steel roofs, street lamps, etc.
“It’s a zinc coating that they put on material to keep it from rusting, and protect it from other elements that the material could be faced with,” Riggs said.
Hanceville Mayor Kenneth Nail feels this business will be beneficial for the city, especially with the projected jobs it is bringing.
“The more jobs that we can bring into the community the better,” Nail said. “When I first met James Kennedy, he was a very personable man, and with this business we are also gaining friends, not just the business. Also, several of their family members will be moving into this area; they are taking a stock into the community. When your place of business is located close to home it becomes nearer and dearer to the heart.”
Kennedy Galvanizing Inc. is located in the Hancevile Industrial Park on 24 acres of industrial property.
