County schools promote HHS vice-principal

Burleson confirmed as Cold Springs principal

The Cullman County Board of Education has hired a few familiar faces to take the reins at two local high schools this fall.

Two open Cullman County principal positions have been filled, with both posts going to the existing assistant principals at those campuses.

Former Hanceville High assistant principal Jimmy Collins has been tapped to take the reins from former principal Tracy Hubbert, who left after two years on the job to pursue other opportunities.

Collins is a Hanceville native and has built his career teaching at the school, and called the hire a “dream come true.”

“I’m just so thankful for the opportunity, because this is the job I’ve always wanted,” he said. “I’ve lived here all my life, and taught here all my life. I’m just excited to get started.”

Collins’ hire took effect immediately.

The board also confirmed the hire of former Cold Springs High assistant principal Tim Burleson to the head job at the school, which was vacated with Tommy Youngblood’s recent retirement. Burleson has been at Cold Springs for several years, and is also an accomplished coach.

“I just want to express my appreciation to the board,” he said. “I’ve been at Cold Springs all my career, and I love the community and the high school. There’s already a phenomenal faculty and staff there, and I’m sure we’ll have a smooth transition process.”

Burleson’s transfer is effective August 1.

Cullman County Board of Education Superintendent Billy Coleman said he believes both men will do an excellent job and his excited to see them grow into their new roles.

“We’re behind them all 100 percent,” he said.
