Grant clears way for more assistance to tornado victims

CULLMAN — Cullman County families affected by the devastating storms of April 27 will soon be provided case management services thanks to a $2.44 million grant provided to the Community Action Partnership through the Governor’s Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives.

The Partnership, which is based in Decatur, will place case managers in 10 counties, including Cullman, with the goal of linking storm-affected families to the resources of their communities so they may move as close as possible to a pre-disaster state.

“Many families are still struggling and this grant will allow our agency to make a difference in the lives of so many people,” board chair Carolyn Orr said. “It reinforces that high performing agencies like the Partnership produce results and that is a wise use of taxpayer dollars.”

The Partnership, whose mission is to eliminate the causes and consequences of poverty in the Tennessee Valley, was founded in 1965 and primarily serves Cullman, Morgan and Lawrence counties. Through a comprehensive model, the organization leverages federal, state and local funds to manage programs, such as Head Start, Alabama Pre K, Foster Grandparents/Senior Companions, and Meals on Wheels, just to name a few, that assist families in becoming economically independent.
