WEST POINT —
Several new jobs are on the way to the area.
Officials are expected to make a formal announcement at 10 a.m. Wednesday from West Point Town Hall regarding the new industry planning to call Cullman County home.
“It’s a manufacturing facility that will create 15 jobs, maybe 25 in the foreseeable future,” Assistant Director of the Cullman Economic Development Agency Dale Greer said.
The name of the industry and details about the company are being withheld until the press conference. It will, however, be located in the West Point community.
“We’re excited,” West Point Mayor Kenneth Kilgo said. “It will be good for the town of West Point because it will generate a few jobs.”
Kilgo added he also feels it will be good for the county as well.
“Because of the way our tax distribution is in Cullman County, the way we share, we all get a portion,” he said. “It’s a win-win for everybody.
The Cullman County Commission and West Point town council approved an abatement in the amount of $1.720 million for building and equipment during meetings last month. Kilgo hopes this will be the first step toward future growth for his town.
“We’re going to use this as a tool to promote a few other businesses,” Kilgo said. “We hope this will give us an additional incentive for them.”
