Deputies nab second burglary suspect; search continues in Arkadelphia area

CULLMAN — Cullman County deputies have captured a second suspect in the early morning burglary of Lakeside Pharmacy in Dodge City.

Sheriff Mike Rainey said three  suspects were pursued after an alarm sounded at the pharmacy on Alabama Highway 69 around 3 a.m.

Deputies pursued the suspects along a portion of Interstate 65, but they turned off on Alabama Highway 91 and abandoned their car. The first suspect was quickly captured in the Arkadelphia area. A second suspect was found about 9:15 a.m. in the same area. The search is focusing on an area around County Road 35 and County Road 8 in the Arkadelphia community.

“We have a state helicopter in the air and an area secured with deputies on the ground. We just want people to know what’s going on and to be cautious. All of the suspects are black males who we believe are from the Birmingham area. We’re hoping this last suspect is still in the area,” Rainey said.

Preliminary reports from investigators show that no merchandise was taken in the burglary. Rainey said some empty money bags may have been taken, but the suspects apparently had little time inside the pharmacy before they began to flee.
