CULLMAN — Good morning, readers, this is what's happening in your county today:



Traffic news:

Drivers traveling on Alabama Highway 157 near Cullman Regional Medical Center should schedule a few extra minutes into their travel time starting today. According to Alabama Department of Transportation Division I engineer Johnny Harris, ALDOT plans to transform the bridge at Lake Catoma into an intermediate one-lane bridge for short amounts of time during the day over the next several weeks, in order for materials being used in the construction of the new bridge to be unloaded.



The Cullman County Road Department is currently performing maintenance on County Road 522; and paving on County Road 723, 724 and 725. Regular maintenance, including bushhogging, continues throughout the county.



The Cullman City Street Department reports crews will be asphalt patching in several areas throughout the day, cleaning drains and performing grass maintenance.



Weather:

Today: Sunny, with a high near 94. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Tonight: Clear, with a low around 64. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph.



Best bets:

COA office closing early June 27: Due to training, the Cullman County Commission On Aging office will be closed from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. June 27.

Today is deadline for ordering smoked butts: St. John’s Evangelical Protestant Church will sell smoked Boston Butts for $25 through noon today. Orders will be ready for pickup Sunday, July 1, after 11:30 a.m. at the church’s north parking lot. Forms and payment accepted in the church office. Checks should be made payable to St. John’s Church.

All proceeds will go to help Nathan Woodard’s return mission trip to the Ukraine.

Park Art program: The Cullman Arts Council is gearing up for the Park Art program and are now taking reservations. Park Art will be from July 16-20, from 9 a.m. to noon each day at The Arts Center, 1609 3rd St. SE, Cullman 35055.

Activities will include theater, water color, drawing, sculpting and pottery.

For children ages 5 through 12 years (no on-site registration this year), cost is $50, with a discount for families registering more than one child: second child is $40; third child is $30. Price of registration includes a Park Art T-shirt. Make checks payable to “Cullman Arts Council.”
