After 16 years as mayor of Fairview, Randall Shedd passed the torch to someone else Tuesday night.
Former council member Dale Seals was given the honor after a non contested race for the seat in August, and was sworn in before friends and family at the town's monthly meeting. In addition, three of the town's four council members were sworn in as well. The fourth seat was declared vacant during the meeting. An appointment to the seat will be made at the next council meeting December 3.
"I just appreciate Randall and everything he's done," Seals said. "I can't say enough about him and all he's done for the town. I've got some big shoes to fill."
Also during the meeting, the council approved the job duties, work schedule, and pay for town clerk Debbie Shedd, as well as a $200 donation to the science fair — $100 each to the county, and Fairview school.
Seals also informed the council a grant in the amount of $400,000 was approved for the construction of roads off Alabama Highway 69 between town hall and Hopper's Grocery Story, as well as one off of Welcome Road that will lead to the town's new park.
