URGENT: US 278 East blocked; 2 drivers to be airlifted

CULLMAN — A two-vehicle accident on U.S. 278 East near St. Bernard has left both drivers injured.

The highway is completely blocked as emergency workers prepare for two helicopters to arrive and remove the injured motorists, said Police Chief Kenny Culpepper.

The accident occurred about 1:15 p.m. near the entrance to St. Bernard. Further information will be released later by officers at the scene, Culpepper said.
