Cullman woman killed in single-vehicle crash, discovered days later

CULLMAN — A Cullman woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 278 East in Cullman that investigators believe occurred on Jan. 2, but the victim wasn’t found until noon today.

Officials said Janet Lynn Freeman, 46, was killed when the 2005 Toyota Prius she was driving traveled off the roadway, down an embankment, overturned and struck a tree.

An Alabama State Troopers spokesperson said the preliminary investigation indicates that the crash occurred on Jan. 2, but the victim was discovered just after noon on today.

Cullman County Coroner Steve Rodgers said the victim’s family filed a missing persons report on Jan. 5.

Troopers are investigating the case, but it was reported that seatbelts were not in use at the time of the crash.
