UPDATE: County schools canceled Monday for weather; warming stations open

With sub-freezing temperatures expected for much of the week, the Cullman County Board of Education has officially canceled classes on Monday. The start of school will also be delayed by two hours on Tuesday.

No decision has been made at this point by Cullman City Schools. Officials say they hope to make a decision at some point Sunday night, depending on how the weather develops.

The City of Cullman and City of Hanceville have also opened warming stations for those who may not have access to a reliable heat source. The Cullman Civic Center at 510 Fifth St. SW is open today and tonight, along with the Hanceville City Hall.

The Red Cross reports a portion of Interstate 65 around Cullman County could be closed due to icing at some point during the night, which could strand some travelers. In addition to locals, the shelters will also serve anyone stranded in the area.
