CULLMAN —
The man suspected of attempting to rob Traditions Bank in Cullman has been named by area law enforcement officials.
The suspect is Cedric Hicks, whose last known residence was in Huntsville.
Police were called to Traditions Bank on U.S. Highway 31 in Cullman on Monday, Nov. 26, when a man described as black male wearing a ballcap asked for money. He did not show a weapon during the robbery attempt.
When the teller was approached by another employee at the bank, the suspect fled the scene. But the following day the man robbed a bank in Rogersville in east Lauderdale County.
“A lot of people have started calling him the ballcap robber. In each case he reportedly was a wearing a different ballcap,” said Craig Montgomery, the lead investigator in the case for Cullman Police Department. “Many of the investigators involved in this case across the region thought it was time to ask the public for more help in catching the suspect.”
Authorities across north Alabama believe the suspect is responsible for bank robberies and attempted robberies in Priceville, Albertville, Guntersville, Rogersville and Pulaski, Tenn., Montgomery said.
“We also know that investigators in Mississippi and Arkansas are looking at the suspect in relation to cases there,” Montgomery added.
The daylight robbery attempt in Cullman disrupted business, but no employees or residents were injured.
