CULLMAN — Good morning, readers, this is what's happening today:



Traffic:



The CSX Railroad will close the railroad intersection at Mitchell Road for paving and will reopen tomorrow night.



Weather:



Today, isolated showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Areas of fog before 10 a.m. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 103. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Tonight isolated showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 73. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.



Driving tip for foggy weather: In heavy foggy areas, reduce your speed a bit and watch that speedometer: Fog creates a visual illusion of slow motion when you may actually be speeding.

Want garden-fresh produce, but don’t have a garden? The Cullman Cooperative Farmers’ Market  is open today at the lot on Young St. NE between 1st and 2nd avenues, not far from Sno Biz.



A reminder: The Cullman County Soil and Water Conservation District’s monthly supervisors meeting is held the second Wednesday of each month beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the USDA Service Center’s new location, 501 4th St. SW, Cullman 35055 (formerly the old Cullman Electric Cooperative). The Farm Service Agency will be in Suite A; Natural Resources and Conservation Service in Suite B; and the Rural Development Agency in Suite C.  



Looking ahead:



Pull! The Skeet Shoot For a Cure: Merchants Bank Relay For Life Team will host a skeet shoot Aug. 18, at Maple Ridge, 280 County Road 420, Cullman 35058. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society for Relay For Life. Preregistration is $25; deadline is Aug. 3. Day-of-registration fee is $30 at 7:30 a.m. Competition begins at 8 a.m. Prizes will be given to first-, second- and third-place shooters. All participants must sign a Waiver of Liability form. A parent/guardian must sign for and accompany anyone under the age of 18; minimum age participant is 9 years of age.
