Storms knock out phones, transmitter in Hanceville

HANCEVILLE — Residents in Cullman County got quite the light show during the overnight hours Monday as a powerful thunderstorm rolled through the area.

In Hanceville, lightning knocked the town’s transmitter and phone system offline, according to Mayor Kenneth Nail.

“It’s been a heck of a mess,” Nail said Tuesday afternoon.

For several hours, all 911 calls were diverted to the county. Crews had the phone system back up and running at 2 p.m.

Nail didn’t know when the transmitter would be back up and working.
