Dodge City council approves road repairs

Traveling in Dodge City should be a little smoother soon, as repair work for five local roads has been approved by the town council.

County Road 236, County Road 238, County Road 223, County Road 239 and County Road 262 are all set to receive repairs in the coming months.

Some of the roads will be repaved, while others will have potholes filled, depending on the amount of work required. Some roads will also have the ditches cleared, depending on the water flow situation.

The town has contracted with James Harris Cooper Paving to handle the repairs, which are estimated to cost approximately $16,600.

Dodge City Mayor Tawana Canada said the council has been considering the improvements for a while, and has narrowed down the list to roads in critical need of work.

“It will be an overhaul,” she said.

Canada said the road work is a high priority for the council and should begin as soon as possible.

“That is a major need for the town and we want to get some work done before the roads worsen,” she said.

In other business the council:

‰ Appointed Inez McDonald as vice-chairman.

‰ Approved $412 for Alabama League of Municipalities dues.

‰ Approved $214 for NARCOG fees.

‰ Approved the retainer for town attorney Hugh Harris.
