CULLMAN — Good morning, readers, this is what's happening in your county today:


Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 35. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 24. Light and variable wind becoming north 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

VFW Karaoke Night: The VFW 2214 will have a karaoke night at 7 p.m. today at 112 Veterans Dr. SW, Cullman 35055. Admission is $5/person and anyone may attend. Info: Randy McGraw at 256-595-0836.

Looking ahead:

Box supper night: Baldwin Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 126 County Road 1153, Cullman 35057, will hold a box supper contest at 4 p.m. Feb. 22. Bring your family’s meal and a decorated box for the contest-prizes awarded for “Best 3”. Meal, games and fellowship to follow, pies sold during this time, with all proceeds going to the fellowship fund. Anyone from the community may join in all the fun; just show up with your family, their meal, and a decorated box (big enough to just carry your meal).

Register now for your Master Gardener class: The Cullman County Office of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System in cooperation with the Cullman County Master Gardener Association is offering the Alabama Master Gardener Course beginning Jan. 29, and concluding April 23.

Fun and informative, the class will meet each Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the County Conference Room located in the basement of the County Office Building at 402 Arnold Street in Cullman. Participants may be beginning gardeners or experienced gardeners. There will be speakers on 14 different gardening topics ranging from growing and maintaining lawns, ornamentals, fruits and vegetables to landscape design.

• February 1: Farm Kid’s Club-Building for the Birds. Create birdhouses and nesters to attract birds at your home. For kids ages 5 and up with an adult. $5 per child. Chaperones free. $10 max per family. Registration required. 9 to 10:30 a.m.
