Arctic air staying put until Saturday

CULLMAN — Arctic air has returned to the Tennessee Valley this week with sub-freezing temperatures expected until Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

The high temperature Wednesday in Cullman is only expected to reach above freezing at 34 degrees. The low at night is expected around 20 degrees.

By Thursday, frigid air will spread across the area, resulting in temperatures nearly 20 degrees below normal. The forecast high is around 29 degrees.

The coldest period is expected to be Thursday night through Friday night with the low Thursday around 10 degrees. Wind chills Thursday night into early Friday will be in the single digits and possibly below zero, according to the weather service. The high temperature Friday is expected around 30 degrees with a low around 17 degrees at night.

Temperatures should begin to rebound Saturday with a high in mid 40s.
