Two local women are in jail on $1 million bonds each after local police shut down an alleged meth lab inside an RV at a home near Good Hope this week.
Carisa Corbin, 38 and Donna Townson, 47, were arrested Tuesday following a lengthy investigation by the Cullman Narcotics Enforcement Team (CNET) and the Cullman County sheriff’s office.
Each suspect was charged with one count of first degree unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance, as well as an additional count of second degree unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance. They are being held in the Cullman County detention center.
CNET had been observing activity at the property — located on County Road 397 (Old Ala. Highway 69) directly across the road from Shady Grove Baptist Church — since receiving a tip over the summer, said sheriff Mike Rainey.
“You have concerned citizens and neighbors, and we responded to the complaints that they had made,” Rainey said. “We had received numerous complaints that there were people coming in and out of this property all the time; behaviors indicative of this type of drug activity. CNET had been watching them for two or three months now, developing evidence, and Tuesday, they found an opportunity to make the arrests.”
Investigators uncovered an alleged meth lab inside the RV, as well as three grams of methamphetamine. The also recovered several ounces of ‘bikers coffee,’ a meth-infused liquid typically drunk by users who want to get the last bit of narcotic high available from the residue left after a meth cook.
“It’s the residue that’s left in the coffee filters after a ‘shake-and-bake,’ after they’ve strained the meth,” Rainey said. “They’ll actually brew coffee, or even just water, through that filter they used, and whatever comes out of there, they drink it.”
