CULLMAN —
Hanceville police arrested a local man who has served as a substitute teacher for allegedly having sexual contact with a 15-year-old child in Madison County.
According to Hanceville Police Chief Bob Long, Anthony “Tony” Wade Sisk, 42, of Hanceville, was arrested on existing warrants during what he called a “routine traffic stop” by his officers on Thanksgiving day. He’s been arrested on charges of second degree sexual abuse, second degree sodomy, enticing a child and electronic solicitation of a child.
“When the officer ran his information, it came back that he had several warrants out for him,” Long said.
Sisk was transported to the Cullman County Detention Center where Cullman County Sheriff Mike Rainey said he was held for nine hours before being picked up by the Madison County Sheriff's Department.
A spokesperson with the Madison County Sheriff's Department said Sisk has since bonded out. Further details about the case were not released.
Sisk had a license to work as a substitute teacher in the State of Alabama from 2002-2007.
Dr. Jan Harris, superintendent of Cullman City Schools, said Sisk had worked as a substitute teacher 24 days in 2003 and 2004. She said Sisk had a verified license through the county school board to substitute dating back to 2002. The license expired in 2007.
County schools superintendent Billy Coleman also confirmed that Sisk had substituted in 2004 at different schools. Both superintendents said there were no complaints on file concerning Sisk's performance as a substitute teacher.
Sisk also worked on a freelance basis as a sports writer for The Times in the late 2000s until he was not retained in 2010. He most recently worked as a freelance sportwriter for the CullmanSense weekly newspaper this season before being let go according to publisher Noah Chandler.
