One popular attraction at Sportsman Lake Park will be out of commission when it opens for the annual holiday lights show next weekend.
Ongoing repairs to fix a minor problem involving the dam at the lake have forced holiday train rides to be halted at the park this season.
But that doesn't mean the annual holiday light's show won't go on.
Early this week, Cullman County Park and Recreation manager Delitha Marchman and employees were busy preparing to install thousands of lights.
"I just want to thank all of our sponsors, they're what make this happen," Marchman said. "I encourage everyone to come out and support Sportsman Lake and the community."
According to Marchman, a portion of the train tracks had to be removed near the back of the lake because of water seeping through the dam.
"Unfortunately because of that we won't be running the train," she said. "They're still in the process of trying to fix the spillway."
In addition to the lights though, horse-drawn carriage rides will be available for $4 per person. Santa Clause will also be on hand each night.
Activities began December 1 and run through the 23. From 5-9 p.m. each night families and other groups will have the opportunity to drive or walk through the display.
The cost is $5 a vehicle.
