CULLMAN — Food bank open: Garden City Church of God will open its food bank from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at 123 Short St. SW, Garden City 35070. Info: Diane West 256-739-3791; or Kathy Day 256-352-5787.

Free ESOL classes: Sacred Heart School, 112 2nd Ave. SE, Cullman 35055, is offering English classes for speakers of other languages, free of charge. Students need only to purchase the textbook used in the classes. Each class meets for 1 to 2 hours per week at Sacred Heart School. There are daytime, evening, weekday and weekend classes to choose from. This is for anyone wanting to learn to speak English. One does not have to attend Sacred Heart Church. Placement tests are free and there is no obligation once test is taken.

Test dates are at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, July 27 and at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, July 28. You only need to take the test once, then a determination as to what level of class you will be placed in. Just come to the front door of Sacred Heart School on one of the test dates and someone will let you in to take the test. New English classes will begin again in August. VFW dance: The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2214 will have a dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the VFW. Music will be provided by the Boogie Night band. The cost is $5 per person. VFW building rentals are available Fridays. Info: Commander Randy McGraw at 256-590-9405.

Meet the Coach! Coach Pat Dye will be at the Southern Accents building Saturday, July 27, to meet and greet folks and to tell them all about his Japanese maples. Everyone is invited to this event.

Southern Accents will start handing out the tickets free of charge at 9:30 a.m. in front of the showroom. Anyone wanting to meet Coach Dye and get an autograph will need a ticket.
