CULLMAN — More than 80 defendants recently accepted plea deals in Cullman County Circuit Court to crimes ranging from bank robbery and meth manufacturing to child abuse and theft.
Mark Alexander Smith, 30, of Indiana pled guilty to robbery in the third degree. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
According to Cullman Police reports, on Aug. 11, 2008, Smith robbed the Regions Bank at the intersection of U.S. Highway 31 and King Edward Street. He was arrested a few weeks later in Lawrence County after he robbed the CB&S Bank in Moulton.
Of the other cases, 33 involved possession of a controlled substance charges while 17 involved meth manufacturing charges.
One defendant pled guilty to child abuse while seven defendants pled guilty to theft charges and four pled guilty to unlawful distribution of controlled substance charges.
One registered sex offender pled guilty to failure to comply with the Community Notification Act.
