CULLMAN —
Those venturing out today should keep their umbrellas handy as a heavy rain event is expected to continue to impact the area on into tonight.
According to Cullman EMA Director Phyllis Little, there is a possibility of flash flooding.
“The ground is so saturated from all the rain we’ve had lately, that we could have a lot of runoff,” Little said.
Because of the threat, a flash flood watch was issued and remains in effect for Cullman until 6 p.m.
Little added that some areas across north Alabama could see up to as much as three inches fall.
While a tornado watch was issued for the southern part of the state, that’s not to be a concern for areas in the Tennessee Valley, as most of the severe weather is expected to stay south of Birmingham. However, a strong thunderstorm or two with thunder and lightning can’t be ruled out locally.
