Warm temperatures and sunny skies are expected for much of today, which is George Washington’s birthday.
The high is expected to reach 61 degrees, but night will bring a 70 percent chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm. The low will fall to 47 and winds will come from the south at 10-15 miles per hour.

The Times’ staff will be developing stories today about legislative issues, a medical clinic in Baileyton as well as roundups on law enforcement activities.
Lawmakers continue to deal with budget issues, which are tied to Medicaid costs and the demands on the prison system.
Later this week, Feb. 22, the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce will celebrate 70 years of service in the community. The Annual Meeting and Gala is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, February 21, in the Atrium at Greenleaf.
The Chamber is expecting approximately 600 people to attend, though a handful of tickets and tables are still available. Anyone interested in purchasing a ticket should contact the Chamber at (256) 734-0454.
Watch for news later in the week about the proposed Bass Fishing Hall of Fame. Several Cullman officials will be traveling to Tulsa, Okla., at the end of the week to attend the organization’s annual banquet and learn where the facility will be built.
Cullman officials have made a pitch to build the hall of fame on the Burrow Property along County Road 222. The state has also approved a plan to develop at interchange at the site with Interstate 65.
